It's the final week of the season for most ski areas in Australia.
It has been a good season at most areas with some reporting the deepest snowbase for 14 years around late august and early last month.
Perisher (pictured above this week), the country's biggest ski area, which had planned to close on September 30th, has extended its season by a week to this coming Sunday.
Most of the country's other leading areas are still open until the end of the coming weekend, except Thredbo which did close last weekend. It is however offering backcountry tours running until October 14th.
Snow depths are diminishing but Charlotte Pass still has just over 2 metres lying, the deepest base in the country.
There's not been much fresh snow lately but it has kept cool with the odd flurry. Mt Buller for example reported 2cm at the weekend and temps down to -7C still, despite spring being well underway.
In Tasmania Ben Lomond also had fresh snowfall recently.
Perisher reports that work on a new quad chairlift for next season is already underway, replacing the Leichhardt T-bar.
