Opinions please on what to look out for when buying a ski bag

Hi

I am looking to buy a ski bag, can anyone advise what I need to look for. They seem to really vary in price, and I'm not sure if a cheaper one would be OK, or if its better to invest in a more expensive one. Its my 1st year with my own ski's!

I bought a hard case for mine about a decade ago and have never regretted it. Not cheap, but 100% sure they aren't going to get damaged in transit.

I have a padded ski bag on wheels, which fits either two pairs of skis and some ski clothing or one pair of skis, ski clothing and boots. Never used it for air travel though. I think padding is must for this to avoid damage to skis.

It depends on how you will be using them...I have 3 one double one for going on planes and two singles for when I want to protect the skis on the drive to the Alps... Make sure whatever bag you buy to go on the plane with is distinctly marked as they are not unique whichever you buy and can be picked up in error at a busy airport where skis and luggage come in separately ...it will spoil your holiday...I talk from experience

Pretty much what these guys said.
Big enough to pack out, padded, go for a unique design or at least personalise it (I painted my initials on mine). Wheels are also very useful dragging them around airports.
I find the soft padded bags the best.

Have always bought the cheapest one possible and packed thermals etc around skis and padded the ends. As long as the zip looks decent then anything should work.

I do like the sound of a hard case but I always tend to go for the cheaper option .... But a hard case will protect your skis more in transtit although I have never had any damage to my skis in a soft bag ....

Thanks for the great advice

I think I will go for a soft padded one, usually fly budget airlines and weight is an issue.
