Is there any skiing in late October?

Am planning trip in 2006, and cannot seem to find any info on When the Swiss or Austrian ski seasons commence. Is there any likelihood of skiing these countries at this time ?!

Saas Fee in Switzerland is a high altitude resort that opens pretty early, i know its been open for a few weeks already this year. A couple of friends of mine have been there in the last couple of weeks and they said conditions were ok ... but whether its open as early as end Oct, i dont know. Maybe try calling the tourist info office?
