Hi

Myself, my partner and another couple, all in our 30's are hoping to go skiing mid to late Jan 09. We are all total novices!

A few colleagues at work have recommended Morzine and from my initial searching on the net it seems like a nice resort.

I'm now trying to work out whether it's best to go for a package deal with someone like Crystal or organise it myself.

I'm tempted with the latter, as flights to Geneva are cheap from Bristol on Squeezy jet. That leaves me with accommodation, transfers, ski school and kit hire to sort out.

Any input on the above would be gratefully received, also is there anything I've forgotten... or should I just book with Crystal and reduce the hassle factor!

Hope you can help.

Cheers

Personally, for your first trip, I'd bite the bullet and book a package - make life as easy as possible so you can concentrate on your skiing. If you get anything wrong or forget anything it could make or break your trip.

Once you're hooked (!) you'll be more confident about booking it all yourself.

Enjoy

My vote would be , that as first timers , I would go with an operator. Takes the hassle out of doing something for the first time...why reinvent the wheel .. Thompson/Crystal fly from cardif to morzine and there might be special offers as the crunch bites

Go for a package deal. Everything is organised for you and there is no hassle finding a ski hire shop etc. Best also for ski instruction which is essential for first timers.

Yes, have to agree with other posts, being a novice myself having only been twice before but definitely book through travel agent. :)

Hi

If you struggle with flights there are flights to Salzburg and Innsbruck from Bristol - and Crystal do some good deals last minute - I have been several times with them and they are pretty good really - no complaints and ther reps are not too pushy. Austria has some good snow sure resorts and it is fairly reasonable (well as good as it can be with the weak pound)

I normally ring crystal number from teletext and barter a bit . See how it goes anyway - good luck!

Defo go with a package as first timers, but shop around and be preparfed to haggle with operators and compare prices.
You can book the lot, travel, accommodation, lessons, ski hire through them so sit back and relax and let them do all the running around.
Once you have mastered what a ski holiday is all about, feel free to try doing it yourself. However, experience has told me that, as cheap as flights may seem, you can ALWAYS find a package on offer for considerably less than you will be able to book a flight, transfer, accommodation etc yourself. Honest.

I agree with the rest of the guys for a first trip go with the operators, but I still book all my holidays independently it's an adventure without the " herded like cattle experience " but it really is each to there own.
Enjoy your holiday.
