A ski buddy of mine is having a confidence problem that seems to be getting worse... he *was* a reasonable intermediate skier a couple of years back. Now even a moderately inclined (I won't use the word steep...) Blue causes an immediate reversion to "survival skiing" and use of the Snowplough!
Apart from just telling him to "go for it" - any tips for, er, mental attitude improvement?

Ski fear treated with hypnotherapy? Interesting, for some reason we'd overlooked that and he's pretty much given up trying now. I'll pass that on though. Thanks.

Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

I too have had a similar experience and many years of lessons could not get me sorted out. I have taken a different if slightly unorthodox approach this year and had 1 course of hynotherapy to get rid of the fear, plus a private lesson. So far the two have worked and I was so chuffed that I decided to take this route. A private lesson sorted out lots of issues, but the fear factor had definitely disappeared. I was amazed how common this problem is, once I had explained it to the hynotherapist. Money well spent!

this sounds obvious, do something that scares you that you would not normaly do where you have no control, its usualy a rational fear of loosing control ! as we get old this devlops more and more, unless we do something which scares us occasionaly it will get worse !
i get in the car and let my wife drive, usualy works for me :D
usualy anything which puts a small amount of fear in some one is good and helps with self confidence,
i do my job everyday which involves scary moments so this helps me.

well just had a bit of that myself, having broken leg previous year. reckon i need a couple of weeks on the snow to get back to where i was, had ski lessons in austria for 2 days was a help. then went off on the reds somewhere, it was hard going, but i think worth it, i dont actually remember it being a joy tho, just wasnt relaxed eneough. but my theory is u gotta push yourself through it.
